ADVERTISING TITLE: Adult Education Teacher

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Jackson Correctional Institution in the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.

The purpose of the Adult Education Teacher is to plan, deliver, and supervise educational programs for inmates, maintain classroom order and safety, assess student progress, provide counseling, and support the development and administration of the education program.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Plans, develops and conducts classes in the assigned subject(s). Utilizes various teaching techniques and activities to assist students with their educational advancement. Responsible for the supervision of inmates assigned to the class. Conducts roll calls, counts and maintaining attendance records. Ensures that order and discipline, tool control, and safety are maintained in the classroom and/or shop.
• Continually evaluates students and makes determinations as to overall progress. Administers grades and evaluates tests.
• Counsels and advises individuals regarding their program progress, behavior or personal concern.
• Participates in staff meetings, seminars and workshops to identify needed curriculum changes and to facilitate professional development.
• Assists in budget preparation and processing purchase requests for the education program.

Salary Incentives:

• Applicants in possession of a master's degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
