Job Description: Infection Control Nurse

Infection Control Nurse Job Summary: Oversight of all infection control and prevention related activities within the organization. Performs infection prevention risk assessments and surveillance to comply with regulating agencies.

Infection Control Nurse Essential Accountabilities:

  • Will be required to establish and implement infection control orientation programs.

  • Responsible for policies and procedures within the organization related to infection control.

  • Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements.

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of annual PPE training.

  • Develops and leads training sessions (infection control, protective equipment)

  • Use epidemiological principles and statistical methods to design, implement and evaluate infection prevention and control strategies.

  • Conducts OSHA risk assessments at least annually and as needed with consideration of served populations, regional vulnerabilities, relevant statistical data, and new and emerging infectious diseases along with Employee Health Provider.

  • Notify the County and/or State Health Department of any reportable diseases, adhering to all internal county and state procedures.

  • Develop and implement continuously improved patient care procedures and control mechanisms relating to quality, compliance, and infectious diseases.

  • Participate in infection prevent and control education of all employees during orientation and annually.

  • Ensure the infection prevention and control procedures meet CMS, county and state, CDC regulations.

  • Organize Infection Prevention and Control Committee meetings and maintain all meeting minutes.

  • Completes infection prevention surveillance activities for the facility.

Infection Control Nurse Department Specific Accountabilities:

  • Assist with annual reviews of quality performance.

  • Report data as required by CMS and NHSN guidelines.

  • Conduct surveillance of McPherson Center for Health patients

  • Lead & coordinate Infection Control QAPI activities for McPherson Center for Health

  • Lead & coordinate Infection Control Committee meetings

  • Participates in McPherson Center for Health committees (i.e., Antimicrobial Stewardship, QAPI, Safety, etc.)

Infection Control Nurse Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Associates or Bachelors degree in Nursing

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years experience in healthcare, preferred experience as an infection control nurse

  • Skills:

    • Nursing, Teaching/Training skills

  • License/ Certification:

    • Licensed Registered Nurse

Infection Control Nurse Physical Working Conditions:

  • Sitting- 50% of the time

  • Walking/standing- 50% of the time
