How does an admissions reader typically collaborate with other members of the admissions team throughout the application cycle?

Admissions Readers frequently work closely with fellow readers, admissions officers, and committee members to ensure a fair and holistic review process. While much of the reading and evaluation is done independently, regular meetings and calibration sessions are held to discuss application trends, align on evaluation standards, and resolve borderline cases. This collaborative environment helps maintain consistency in decision-making and offers opportunities for professional development through peer feedback and training. Effective communication with the broader team is essential, especially during peak application periods.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an admissions reader?

To thrive as an Admissions Reader, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of academic evaluation, typically supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with application management systems, CRM software, and institutional evaluation rubrics is often required. These skills ensure fair, efficient, and consistent evaluation of applicants, which is vital for upholding institutional standards and diversity goals.
