Job description

Job Title: RN Labor and Delivery
Location: Silver Spring, Maryland
Employment Type: Contract
Work Setting: Onsite
Number of Positions: 1
Hours: 36 hours/week
Contract Duration: Approximately 90 days
Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
Schedule: 3 ร— 12-hour shifts/week
Experience Required: 2+ years
The RN Labor and Delivery provides comprehensive nursing care to mothers and newborns throughout the childbirth process, including labor, delivery, immediate recovery, and postpartum care.
The RN will monitor maternal and fetal well-being, administer medications, support and coach patients during labor, assist with deliveries, and provide education to patients and families regarding newborn and postpartum care.
This position requires an experienced Labor & Delivery RN who is comfortable working in an OR setting and can function as the baby RN when required.
The facility follows an LDRP model with a Level I maternal care and nursery setting with a special care nursery.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to mothers throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum.
Monitor maternal and fetal status throughout the childbirth process.
Identify and communicate changes in maternal or fetal condition.
Administer medications and treatments according to physician/provider orders.
Coach and support patients throughout labor and delivery.
Assist physicians and the delivery team during childbirth.
Provide immediate postpartum and recovery care.
Provide appropriate care and support for newborns.
Function as the baby RN when assigned.
Provide patient and family education regarding newborn care, postpartum care, and related needs.
Work effectively in an OR environment.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, anesthesia, and other members of the healthcare team.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Follow established patient safety, infection prevention, and clinical protocols.
Provide compassionate, patient-centered care throughout the childbirth experience.
Perform other nursing duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for the work location.
Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience.
Recent experience caring for laboring and postpartum patients.
Experience monitoring maternal and fetal well-being.
Ability to provide comprehensive care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum.
Comfortable working in an OR setting.
Experience or willingness to function as a baby RN.
Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced maternal-child healthcare environment.
Ability to work the required night shift schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
LDRP experience.
Experience in a Level I, Level II, or Level III maternal care environment.
Experience with special care nursery patients.
Experience assisting with deliveries and newborn care.
Recent traveler/contract Labor & Delivery RN experience.
Strong experience working collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia, and multidisciplinary teams.
