Job description

Description The City of Lynchburg is an Equal Opportunity Employer Position serves as the initial point of contact for the clients seeking benefits and/or services. Duties understanding and explain basic benefit program information, making appropriate referrals, assisting clients with applications, and researching information needed. Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Other duties necessary to deliver services to customers and citizens may be assigned. When assigned to Benefit Programs: Analyzes needs and coordinates resources that will support families/clients Serves as point of contact for clients Assists clients with completing applications and performs initial screening of applications Assesses and makes appropriate referrals to internal and external resources as needed Researches a variety of databases (including local and state agencies' databases) to obtain and/or verify information needed to process applications. Attaches information to applications for documentation purposes Makes photocopies of documents for case files Maintains complex logs and records, forwarding data to appropriate staff member(s) Performs data entry tasks regarding case files Updates databases, client files, and other automated records as needed Schedules appointments for clients to meet with staff Provides information regarding programs Assists in the preparation of periodic, special, and other reports for statistics Performs clerical support functions such as receiving and directing telephone calls and visitors, preparing correspondence, etc.

Regular attendance is required. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

Required to participate in emergency operations as needed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Minimum Education and Experience Required QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires Associate's degree in business related field and considerable experience (2+ years) in public administrative support, working with a diverse population.

An acceptable combination of education and experience may be substituted for the education requirement. Requires ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel as well as other computer programs used to determine eligibility. Additional Requirements Must successfully complete Criminal Records background check and Child Protective Services Registry Check.

Possession of valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
