Job description

This position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day.

Location - This role is in-person at South Campus Edmonton.

Reporting to the Tennis Supervisor, the Tennis Program & Administration Support position will support the Tennis department to ensure day-to-day activities are carried out in an efficient and effective manner. This position will be assigned a combination of facility monitoring, office time, instruction and event management.

A major focus of this position is to assist with the organization, administration and promotion of tennis events and tournaments, tennis instructional programs and facility bookings. The position will ensure pre-event set up and post event take down. Tasks will include marketing, scheduling, staffing and execution of tournaments and events.

The position will work closely with our junior performance pathway coaches to recruit, assess and place players. This includes organizing and running try outs. The position will be assisting with registration and payments for the junior performance and development stream participants. They will also serve as a liaison between the coaches, management and parents of the performance and development pathways. This position will provide leadership to the summer camp coaches. This position will assist in finding coach replacement for performance and development programs, camps and adult and junior instructional programs.

This position requires the ability to work a variable work schedule spanning 7 days a week, evenings and weekends.

The Campus Operations & Services team supports the University of Alberta through a range of essential services and works for operating, maintaining and renewing infrastructure across our campuses.
  • High School Diploma is required
  • Current Intermediate First Aid and Level C CPR certification required every 2 years;
  • Successful applicant will require a Police Information Check (PIC) inclusive of a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to hire.
  • Knowledge of recreation programming, athletics, and sport competition is required, minimum of one year of experience;
  • Superior communication skills required;
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting is required;

Preferred

  • Undergraduate degree in Recreation, Sport Management, Kinesiology, or related field is preferred 
  • Experience in Recreation Management Software preferred, Intelligenz experience preferred;
  • Experience with Google Apps preferred;
  • Tennis knowledge is an asset;

This position is subject to all applicable terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the Governors of the University of Alberta and the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).

  • Continuously monitoring the online booking programs to ensure that all instructional programs, pay and play opportunities, partner bookings and events are booked properly.
  • Assists the tournament operation including facility set up and take down, player registration, creation and scheduling of draws, and oversight of tournament operation desk. 
  • Liaison between the coaches, management and parents of the performance pathway and the development pathway
  • Promotes events and programs by developing and distributing promotional materials;
  • Day to day communication with parents in our programs;
  • Works with Green and Gold admin team on a daily basis during summer camps;
  • Monitoring the court use in both facilities and ensuring rules and policies are being followed
  • Assists with developing/adapting policies and procedures
  • Ensures accidents/incidents associated with external events occurring in sport and recreation facilities are recorded
  • Responds to emergencies within the facility, reports and records incidents and accidents with appropriate paperwork
