Camp Nurse (RN or LPN) — Diabetes Management & Care Specialist

Location: Minocqua, WI

Employment Type: Full-Time, Seasonal (June 7 – August 6, 2026)

Compensation & Benefits
  • Weekly Salary: $1,000 – $1,500/week (dependent upon experience and nursing credentials).

Role Overview

Deliver targeted, high-quality medical care within a dynamic outdoor youth program. Operating similarly to a specialized school health office, this residential role manages daily clinical needs ranging from routine triage and sports injury response to standard medication rounds. Crucially, this position will serve as a lead clinical resource for campers requiring routine diabetes tracking, insulin administration, and glucose monitoring throughout the summer.

Core Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, insulin delivery, and pump/CGM troubleshooting for diabetic campers.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat typical childhood illnesses and minor physical injuries for both campers and staff.

  • Administer immediate first aid and execute rapid triage during athletic and water-based incidents.

  • Coordinate, log, and distribute routine daily medications with absolute documentation precision.

  • Prepare specialized medical travel kits (including fast-acting glucose, glucagon, and routine prescriptions) for off-site wilderness excursions.

  • Maintain open, transparent communication regarding health statuses with camp directors, medical colleagues, and parents.

  • Partner with the counseling team to foster the comprehensive physical, mental, and emotional wellness of the camp population.

  • Maintain a visible, reassuring clinical presence across the campus to champion a proactive safety culture.

Minimum Criteria
  • Active, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Wisconsin (or valid compact state licensure).

  • A minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience with verifiable exposure to pediatrics, school nursing, insulin-dependent diabetes management, or emergency care.

  • Current and valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.

  • Absolute availability to live on-site for the complete duration of the contract (June 7 – August 6, 2026).

  • Proven competency in independent clinical triage, blood sugar stabilization, and decision-making in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) designation, or experience managing continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and automated insulin delivery systems.
