Hampton University School of Religion invites nominations and applications for Adjunct Professor of Religion and Theology for assignments beginning August 2025.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.
HamptonU Global offers access to high quality, asynchronous degreed programs spanning from certificate credentialing to Doctoral degrees. Our faculty bring diverse experiences from their academic and professional backgrounds to ensure students receive an education that prepares them for global opportunities. We are committed to the promotion of learning, the development of character, the creation of knowledge, and service to society. HamptonU Global currently offers the Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Master of Divinity Degrees. We are anticipating offering the Doctor of Ministry and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in January 2024. The objectives of the School of Religion degree programs are to: 1) prepare men and women for excellence in pastoral leadership, theological scholarship, and community service and 2) provide students with opportunities to acquire and cultivate a specific body of specialized knowledge that will prepare them to become leaders in the church, community and the academy.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficiency in the Canvas Learning Management System (essential and non-negotiable)
- Teach graduate religion and theology courses in a variety of formats; online, hybrid, blended and in-seat instructional methods.
- Provide proficient online instruction using the University's Learning Management System (Canvas).
- Demonstrate serious engagement across a range of doctrinal topics, with erudition in and passion for the diversity, breadth, historicity, doctrine, and contemporary applications of the African American Church and its traditions of faith.
- Collaborate with colleagues to review and review curriculum, courses development, teaching materials and teaching methods to promote student success and lifelong learning.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of a full faculty member in the School of Religion to include excellent publication and teaching, including doctoral supervision, mentoring of students; service on faculty committees, meetings and programs with support of the programs, and external initiatives.
- Engage in high-quality research and grant writing
- Participate actively in the life of the School of Religion and Hampton University.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Religion
Salary is based on student enrollment.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have an earned PhD/ThD in theology or religion from an accredited university. Experience in and evidence of successful teaching in a university setting is preferred with a strong commitment to academic excellence; teaching and pedagogical innovation is required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in-person, hybrid, and digital pedagogical practices. Research productivity and grantsmanship experience are highly desirable qualifications.
