Position Overview
This position involves teaching undergraduate BA and BFA students the core concepts and practical skills of professional Graphic Design, guiding them from introductory foundations through advanced applications. The instructor will develop and deliver coursework that builds students' creative, conceptual, and technical abilities across key areas of the field, including typography, publication design, branding design, and package design.
Essential Duties
  • The individual will teach BA and BFA students professional Graphic Design concepts and skills from the beginning to advanced levels, such as typography, publication design, branding design, and package design.

Required Qualifications
  • MFA in Graphic Design or comparable and significant professional experience or four-year degree and extensive professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College teaching experience.

Environmental Conditions
Graphic Design studio courses are taught in a Macintosh computer lab and are capped at 15 students. An adjacent seminar is available on select days/times. This facility includes a projector with a sound system, worktables, inkjet and color laser printers, paper cutters, a light box, book binding tools, a selection of other small tools for building projects, flat files, a ventilated spray room, a large storage closet, and cupboards. Floor-to-ceiling windows are equipped with blackout blinds. All graphic design students have access to open lab hours on select days. There is a shared adjunct office on the first floor of the Art Center.

-UNION ELIGIBILITY: Adjuncts become eligible to join the RIC/AFT Adjunct Union if they complete 6 load hours (excludes applied music) within the two previous consecutive years.
-Upon hire, candidate will be required to provide an official transcript of highest degree earned.
