Position Overview
The Environmental Technician will support environmental consulting projects across Alaska by conducting field investigations, collecting environmental samples, and assisting with compliance and remediation activities primarily in Anchorage and occasionally at remote sites. This role assists clients to meet federal, state (ADEC), and local regulatory requirements while operating safely in Arctic and sub-Arctic conditions. Job includes field work, travel to rural locations, and collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams. Estimated travel time for the position is 75% in Anchorage and 25% supporting other sites within Alaska, the Pacific Rim and the lower 48 states.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Conduct inspections and field sampling of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air at military and remote sites across Alaska.
โ€ข Support remediation projects including contaminated soils and hazardous waste sites.
โ€ข Operate/maintain field equipment in varied weather conditions.
โ€ข Travel via truck, ATV/UTV, snowmachine, small aircraft, or boat to field sites.
โ€ข Follow ADEC and EPA sampling protocols including chain-of-custody procedures.
โ€ข Document field activities through logs, photos, and all types of field data.
โ€ข Assist in preparing technical reports and regulatory documentation.
โ€ข Adhere to safety protocols including cold weather and wildlife safety.
Required Qualifications
โ€ข Experience executing environmental fieldwork.
โ€ข Knowledge of ADEC and federal environmental regulations.
โ€ข Ability to work in remote and extreme weather conditions.
โ€ข Strong data collection and documentation skills.
โ€ข Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF and other standard business computer programs.
โ€ข Valid driver's license and ability to travel for extended rotations.
โ€ข Ability to pass background checks to support projects on military installations.
Note: This position requires specific driving duties. You must be able to pass a motor vehicle records check required by our insurer.
Desired Qualifications
โ€ข Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
โ€ข Environmental consulting experience.
โ€ข OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
โ€ข Experience at DoD locations.
โ€ข Familiarity with sampling and groundwater monitoring.
โ€ข First Aid/CPR or wilderness safety training.
โ€ข AK-CESCL (Alaska Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead) certification.
