Job description

Description The Adaptive Recreation Aide assists individuals with disabilities in a variety of recreation programs for all ages such as art and enrichment, outdoor, sports, fitness, and aquatic activities. Under the general supervision of the Adaptive Coordinator, the Adaptive Recreation Aide supports individuals with disabilities by assisting with the implementation of inclusive recreational programs, social activities, and special events. This position is responsible for fostering a safe environment, facilitating participation engagement, assisting with activity setup, and promoting positive and accessible experiences for diverse populations.

Please attach a cover letter. Examples of Duties 1. Provide services directly and indirectly to a variety of individuals with cognitive, behavioral, and physical disabilities 2.

Adapt recreation activities to the needs of the participant 3. Assist instructors with developing, prepping, and setting up class materials including sports, arts and crafts, and social events 4. Ensure a safe and inclusive environment by observing, inspecting, and monitoring program areas and equipment 5.

Advise or guide staff to support the participant and facilitate conversations to ensure the participant has the best possible experience 6. Communicate with participants, families, and caregivers to support engagement 7. Maintains adaptive equipment 8.

Reports participant progress or concerns to supervisors 9. Record attendance, track participant progress, and report incidents or behavioral concerns to supervisors Typical Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age Must have current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification Must pass criminal background check Supplemental Information Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work harmoniously in a group and to interact with the participants of all ages in a positive and courteous manner Ability to communicate in a concise and articulate manner both orally and in writing Ability to accept supervision and to communicate effectively with participants and supervisors Possess a flexible, positive attitude, enthusiasm and excellent problem-solving skills preferred; has a positive, patient, and supportive attitude towards people with disabilities Ability to work indoors or outdoors Ability to work safely Ability to react quickly to safety situations Work Environment and Physical Effort This is a non-smoking work environment. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors at a Park District, public, or private facility.

Though most programs are held during the day, some programs may meet in the evenings and/or overnight. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
