Job description

Adaptive Physical Education Teacher Needed
Work with Preschool Students with Developmental Disabilities
Position Overview
The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and leading developmentally appropriate physical education activities for preschool students with developmental disabilities. This role focuses on promoting gross motor development, participation in group activities, and supporting students in building physical skills in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and conduct adaptive physical education activities for preschool students with developmental disabilities.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and therapy staff to support student goals during gross motor activities.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized gym or activity space.
  • Follow scheduled physical education programming and activity plans.
  • Ensure services are delivered with respect for student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Practice universal precautions at all times.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by the program director.
Qualifications
  • Masterโ€™s Degree in Education, Special Education, or Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with students with disabilities as an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively with staff and families.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely lift and position children when necessary.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, squat, and kneel.
  • Ability to lift, push, or move gross motor equipment and adaptive devices such as wheelchairs or prone standers.
