Role Summary

This individual will support and may lead initiatives related to design and pricing of indexed and fixed annuity products. This includes product design, actuarial modeling, pricing, actuarial support of regulatory filings and support of sales ideas. This position will work closely with the broader Life & Annuity Solutions team, Distribution/Field Leaders, and Marketing to ensure new products and features are aligned with the company's strategic goals.
This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you are in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide and discuss pricing results as well as sensitivity-analysis to senior Actuaries of the Company, including Product Risk Management Committee and Investments Risk Management committee.
  • Present product features and/or actuarial results to Distribution Leadership, Product Risk Committee, Project Teams, Senior Management, and other stakeholders.
  • Reviews experience studies and sets pricing assumptions.
  • Prepare or review actuarial materials required to secure state approvals.
  • Prepare or review product specifications and actuarial reports.
  • Partner with the policy forms team to review forms as needed.
  • Understands pricing practices, and develops as well as oversees modeling to set appropriate rates, understand profitability, and analyze sensitivities.
  • Understands and can reverse engineer key features of competitor products.
  • Reviews product marketing materials as appropriate.
  • Partner with the policy forms team to review forms as needed.
  • Coordinates and reviews work of outside actuarial consultants.
  • Train and mentor actuarial students/analysts as needed.
  • Provide support to other business areas
  • Consult or advise on broader matters that may or may not be actuarial in nature
  • Proactively identifies and ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • FSA or career ASA designation from the Society of Actuaries
  • A minimum of 6 years of actuarial experience with in-depth knowledge of annuity products and benefits
  • Solid financial modeling experience using actuarial software, preferably MG-ALFA.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Valuation, Nonforfeiture, tax, risk-based-capital and other relevant regulations and standards.
  • Ability to work with Distribution Leadership and multiple stakeholders to design and develop new annuity products and features.
  • Self-motivated and result-focused
  • Exceptional analytical acumen and advanced problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to successfully complete a background check that may include fingerprinting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
  • Indexed Annuity Pricing experience a major plus

Base Pay Range. The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.
Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life's discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

$121,875-$178,750 USD
