Job Description

Ameriprise Financial has an exciting opportunity for a skilled Actuarial Associate to join Corporate Actuarial, performing actuarial tasks with limited manager assistance or supervision while providing technical analysis and support through the development, enhancement, operation, and documentation of annuity actuarial risk models. The role involves preparing and executing annuity model runs to support highly visible analyses for management, developing subject matter expertise in annuity risk modeling and model change management processes, and, as appropriate, providing leadership and guidance to actuarial intern(s).

Key Responsibilities

  • Support quarterly and adhoc annuity risk reporting and analysis, including preparation, validation, and communication of results and insights to management and key stakeholders.

  • Assist in evaluating the impacts of model change requests by developing expertise in market sensitivities, Statutory and GAAP accounting, and actuarial modeling techniques.

  • Develop subject matter expertise in Prophet annuity models, including run settings, model structures, execution processes, and results retrieval.

  • Serve a critical role in the annuity risk model development cycle by leading testing of model enhancements to ensure accuracy of risk reporting results and enable new risk mitigation solutions.

  • Support the validation, development, and maintenance of model documentation requirements and business controls related to actuarial modeling and reporting.

  • Support the development and implementation of process improvements and automation initiatives.

  • Provide critical support to model owners in meeting ongoing model governance requirements.

  • Maintain actuarial credentials through ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (4 years)

  • 3 or more years relevant actuarial or related experience

  • All Introductory ASA exams plus 1 Actuarial/Advanced ASA Exam or Requirement

  • Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) coursework completion

  • Ability to work independently; self-starter

  • Strong technical skill set (e.g. actuarial modeling software, Python, Excel & other Microsoft Office applications)

  • Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, or a related discipline

  • Experience with FIS Prophet or other Actuarial Software

  • Understanding of annuity liabilities, fixed income and derivative assets, and core financial modeling concepts

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across the organization

In-Office Collaboration

Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $93,400- $128,400/year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role. We also have a competitive and comprehensive benefits program that supports all aspects of your health and well-being, including but not limited to vacation time, sick time, 401(k), and health, dental and life insurances.
