Job description

To represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA. The Youth Worker, under the supervision of the AED of Youth Development, provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable leadership to the members, volunteers, families and program participants. All Merrimack Valley YMCA staff will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Independently manage and facilitate activities for groups of 8-10 youth
  • Management of groups includes but is not limited to:
    • Assisting with activity supervision
    • assisting with lesson planning and implementation
    • Keeping accurate attendance documents
  • Support lead staff in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Create an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of youth
  • Ability to work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments
  • By personal example help interpret quality of YMCA Character Values - Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Accept and perform all other responsibilities necessary for the good of the organization as required by supervisor (remains flexible)

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Commitment to personal youth development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
