Activity Director

ASPYRE of Bronzeville is seeking a passionate, energetic, and creative Activity Director to lead our Activities Department within our skilled nursing facility. This leadership role is responsible for developing and implementing engaging recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic programs that enhance the quality of life for our residents while promoting independence, dignity, and overall well-being.

Job Summary

The Activity Director oversees the planning, organization, and execution of a comprehensive activities program that meets the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual needs of our residents. This position supervises activity staff, coordinates special events, maintains regulatory compliance, and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to create meaningful resident experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and oversee a comprehensive calendar of individual and group activities tailored to resident interests, abilities, and care plans.

  • Develop monthly activity calendars and ensure a variety of recreational, educational, social, cultural, and therapeutic programs are offered.

  • Supervise, train, and support Activity Assistants, volunteers, and other department personnel.

  • Conduct resident assessments to identify interests, preferences, and activity needs.

  • Encourage resident participation while promoting independence, socialization, and emotional well-being.

  • Coordinate special events, holiday celebrations, entertainment, community partnerships, and resident outings.

  • Collaborate with Nursing, Therapy, Social Services, and other departments to provide individualized resident programming.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, attendance records, care plan updates, and resident progress notes in accordance with facility policies.

  • Manage department inventory, supplies, equipment, and budget.

  • Ensure the Activities Department remains compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care.

  • Maintain clean, organized, safe, and welcoming activity areas.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Certified Activity Director (required).

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, or a related field preferred.

  • Previous Activity Director experience in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, rehabilitation, or healthcare setting required.

  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations related to activity programming in long-term care.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to develop creative, engaging, and person-centered activity programs.

  • Compassionate, energetic, and resident-focused approach with a passion for improving quality of life.
