ACTIVITIES ASSISTANT

Activities Manager
Summary/Objective
In keeping with our organization's goal of improving the lives of the residents we serve, the Activities Assistant is involved in planning, creating, and implementing activity programs in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as facility policies and procedures. The Activities Assistant works under the direction of the Activities Manager. The work of the Activities Assistant is directed at caring for the emotional, recreational, and social needs of the residents.
Job Duties
Responsibilities include assisting the Activities Manager and performing the following tasks as directed:
  • Assist in planning, creating, and implementing activity programs as directed by the Activities Manager
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations relating to responsibilities and advise Activities Manager accordingly
  • Plan and implement activities for residents pursuant to physician orders and in consultation with the nursing department,
  • Maintain a good relationship built on communication and teamwork with members from other departments within the facility to promote activities
  • Conduct meetings with residents and/or families as directed
  • Inform residents and families of available activities
  • Implement hobbies, arts and crafts, and other activities will appropriate material to engage residents
  • Plan and arrange transportation for activities to other locales as necessary
  • Maintain up-to-date notes relating to activities provided to residents
  • Regularly meets with Activities Manager to review activities and progress as well as plan future activities
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy and dignity of residents, and interact with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect, and promotes a caring environment
  • Communicate and interact effectively with residents, visitors, families, staff, and supervisors
  • Report all resident, staff, or other concerns to the appropriate department head
  • Report all incidents, accidents, unsafe situations, and concerns immediately
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed
  • Comply with facility policies and procedures
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of relevant experience
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Associate or bachelor's degree
  • Active certification as a Certified Nurse Aide
  • Two years of relevant experience

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is within a healthcare facility that operates every day. Although this is generally a Monday through Friday position, there will be scheduled times of work on the weekends and holidays. Significant events can occur at any given time that require working. Ongoing direction and support may be necessary if systems are not properly implemented, continuously improved, and monitored.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position generally will require physical activity. It may at times require walking to various locations within a facility. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and may require some use of machinery consistent with the job duties.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position at times requires the ability to walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and lift as necessary.
