What does an acquisitions analyst intern do?

An Acquisitions Analyst Intern supports the acquisitions team in identifying, analyzing, and evaluating potential investment opportunities, often in real estate or corporate sectors. Their responsibilities typically include conducting market research, performing financial modeling, assisting with due diligence, and preparing reports or presentations for senior management. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in deal analysis, industry research, and the acquisition process, helping interns develop analytical and communication skills necessary for a career in finance or real estate.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an acquisitions analyst intern?

To thrive as an Acquisitions Analyst Intern, you need strong analytical skills, financial modeling abilities, and a solid foundation in finance or real estate, often supported by coursework or relevant internships. Familiarity with Excel, Argus, and financial analysis software, as well as knowledge of market research databases, is typically required. Attention to detail, effective communication, and a proactive attitude are standout soft skills for this role. These skills enable accurate deal evaluations, clear reporting, and effective teamwork in fast-paced acquisition environments.

What are common challenges faced by acquisitions analyst interns during their internship?

Acquisitions Analyst Interns often encounter challenges such as quickly learning industry-specific valuation models and adapting to the fast-paced nature of deal cycles. Interns may also need to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring accuracy in financial analysis and due diligence. Collaboration with senior analysts and other departments, such as legal or asset management, is crucial for gaining a holistic understanding of each potential acquisition. Overcoming these challenges provides valuable experience and helps interns build essential analytical and teamwork skills.
