Job description

MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Hardware Technician to join our team at the Fort Meade, MD location.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning specialized classified equipment using a wide variety of test equipment & diagnostic software to pinpoint root causes of hardware failure.
  • Perform precise mechanical and electrical repairs and calibrations, including micro-soldering, capacitor replacement, screen replacements, and port repairs (USB-C, HDMI, etc.).
  • Disassemble devices, clean internal components (fans, heatsinks), reapply thermal paste, and cleanly reassemble units to factory standards.
  • Run comprehensive post-repair benchmarks and stress tests to ensure hardware stability and full functionality before redeployment.
  • Parts Management: Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, request components for ordering, and document all parts used in the ticketing system.
  • Strictly adhere to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) safety protocols and guidelines for handling hazardous materials like damaged lithium-ion batteries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency with precision hand tools, test equipment, soldering irons, heat guns, and rework stations.
  • Deep knowledge of internal device anatomy (E.g. motherboards, power supplies, logic boards, LCD panels).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, board views, and technical repair manuals.
  • Solid understanding of ESD safety procedures and proper chemical usage (e.g., Isopropyl alcohol, flux).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical school degree or certifications in electronics/computer repair
  • CompTIA A+
  • IPC A-610 or IPC-7711/7721 (Soldering/Rework Certifications)
  • Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) / Vendor-specific repair certs (Dell, HP, Lenovo)

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI w/ Poly

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move and lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling microscopic or fragile components.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to work under a microscope or magnifying lamp for extended periods.
