What is accounting training?

An Accounting Training job is a role designed to provide hands-on experience and foundational knowledge in accounting principles, financial reporting, and bookkeeping. It is often aimed at entry-level candidates, interns, or professionals looking to enhance their accounting skills. Responsibilities may include assisting with financial record-keeping, reconciling accounts, preparing reports, and learning about tax regulations. Training may be conducted in-house by companies or through structured programs offered by accounting firms. This role helps individuals develop practical skills necessary for a career in accounting.

What are typical responsibilities in an accounting training role?

Professionals in Accounting Training are responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating training sessions on various accounting processes and software for new hires or existing employees. They often create educational materials, conduct hands-on workshops, and provide one-on-one coaching to address individual learning needs. The role frequently involves collaborating with accounting teams and management to identify knowledge gaps and update training content based on industry changes. This position offers variety and the opportunity to directly impact the efficiency and accuracy of company financial operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an accounting training position?

Excelling in Accounting Training requires a solid grasp of accounting principles, instructional skills, and typically a degree in accounting or finance alongside relevant teaching or training experience. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle, as well as certification like CPA or CMA, is highly valued in this field. Excellent communication, patience, and organizational skills help trainers convey complex concepts effectively and adapt to trainees’ learning needs. These competencies are critical to ensuring trainees gain practical, job-ready accounting knowledge that meets organizational goals.

How can I get a job in accounting training with no experience?

To get a job in accounting training with no experience, focus on gaining foundational knowledge through online courses or certifications such as QuickBooks or Excel. Highlight transferable skills like communication and organization in your resume, and consider entry-level roles or internships to build relevant experience.

How do I train to be an accountant?

To train as an accountant, you typically pursue a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Gaining practical experience through internships and obtaining professional certifications like the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) can enhance job prospects and skills in accounting software and financial analysis.

Is 30 too late to get into accounting training?

Accounting training is accessible at any age, and many people start careers in accounting later in life. Age does not prevent you from gaining necessary skills or certifications such as the CPA, and employers value diverse experience levels. Learning accounting fundamentals and gaining relevant certifications can help you enter the field regardless of age.

What qualifications do I need to be an accounting training trainee?

To become an accounting training trainee, candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent; some positions prefer or require a college degree in accounting, finance, or related fields. Basic knowledge of accounting principles and proficiency with accounting software like Excel or QuickBooks are also beneficial. Job description

About the Role

Armada AI is building the next generation of edge infrastructure and AI systems - and we need exceptional finance talent to match. As Technical Accounting Manager, you will serve as the right hand to the Director of Technical Accounting, driving complex US GAAP research, owning key components of audit readiness, and partnering cross-functionally to ensure our accounting framework keeps pace with rapid business growth.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role for a technically sharp accountant who thrives in fast-moving environments and wants to grow into a senior leadership position.

Location. This role is remote-based on the continental US.

Main responsibilities:

Technical Accounting Research & Memos

  • Lead and execute complex US GAAP research across key areas including ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 842 (leases), ASC 718 (stock-based compensation), and ASC 340-40 (sales commissions).
  • Draft and review technical accounting position papers and memoranda, with clear conclusions and audit-defensible rationale.
  • Monitor emerging standards (FASB and SEC) and assess applicability and impact to Armada's business model.
  • Support the Director in evaluating accounting implications of new products, business models, and strategic transactions including M&A, equity financings, and international expansion.

Audit Readiness & SOX Compliance

  • Own the preparation of audit-ready financial statement schedules, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers for interim and year-end external audit cycles.
  • Collaborate with external auditors on technical accounting and financial reporting matters, responding to auditor inquiries and managing PBC (prepared-by-client) deliverable lists.
  • Prepare process walkthroughs and build control frameworks for future SOX compliance.
  • Identify control deficiencies or gaps and drive remediation efforts in coordination with Internal Audit and the broader Finance team.
  • Support the preparation of financial statement footnote disclosures in accordance with US GAAP and SEC regulations.

Policy Development & Implementation

  • Assist in drafting, maintaining, and operationalizing corporate accounting policies to ensure consistent application across the global organization.
  • Translate complex accounting standards into clear, practical guidance for non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Drive implementation of new accounting standards, coordinating with systems, operations, and FP&A teams to ensure smooth adoption.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Legal, and Tax teams to assess accounting implications of new initiatives prior to execution - including novel AI/edge product structures and international launches.
  • Partner with FP&A and Corporate Development to ensure deal economics and business model changes are correctly reflected in the financial statements.
  • Build trusted relationships with operational stakeholders to proactively surface and resolve accounting issues before they become audit findings.

 Team Leadership & Development

  • Create a culture of technical excellence, intellectual curiosity, and continuous improvement within the technical accounting function.
  • Provide training and guidance on US GAAP topics and company accounting policies to the broader Finance and Accounting organization.

Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years of progressive accounting experience, with demonstrated technical accounting depth.
  • Public accounting experience required; Big 4 Accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of US GAAP, with particular expertise in ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 718, and ASC 340-40.
  • Direct experience with public SEC filers.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing technical accounting memos and position papers.
  • Experience supporting external audits (preparation of workpapers, audit liaison, PBC management).
  • Solid understanding of SOX compliance requirements, internal controls design, and testing.
  • CPA license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at a high-growth technology, SaaS, or infrastructure company.
  • Familiarity with multi-national consolidations and international accounting considerations.
  • Exposure to M&A accounting, purchase price allocations (ASC 805), or equity transaction accounting.
  • Prior experience in a pre-IPO or IPO-readiness environment.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP; comfort with BI/reporting tools.

Compensation & Benefits

For U.S. Based candidates: To ensure fairness and transparency, the starting base salary range for this role for candidates in the U.S. are listed, varying based on location experience, skills, and qualifications.  In addition to base salary, this role will also be offered equity and subsidized benefits (details available upon request).
