Job Summary:

Fortis Fire & Safety is seeking a skilled Accounting Supervisor to support our core accounting functions. This role is responsible for accurate financial reporting, general ledger management, reconciliations, and month-end close, with a strong focus on the accounting workflows specific to the trade, including project and service billing, work-in-progress tracking, and job costing.

The Accounting Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial data, strengthening internal controls, and supporting corporate accounting and operations. This position oversees day-to-day billing, banking, and AP/AR activity while partnering on reporting, analysis, and close. The ideal candidate brings solid technical accounting skills, a disciplined and detail-oriented approach, and the ability to analyze financial data to support informed business decisions. This position also supports key initiatives such as ERP optimization (e.g., Q360) and ongoing process improvement across the organization. Some general office and administrative support may be required as business needs arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage service and project billing, including job costing, revenue and expense matching, and work-in-progress (WIP) tracking.
  • Support corporate month-end and year-end close processes, including physical inventory.
  • Support accurate and timely financial reporting, including reviewing financial data and ensuring transactions are recorded properly in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows, ensuring accuracy and appropriate internal controls.
  • Support day-to-day banking operations, including oversight of incoming and outgoing bank transactions.
  • Monitor accounting dashboards to ensure efficient day-to-day AP/AR operations.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls related to revenue, expenditures, and budgets.
  • Reconcile corporate card expenses and transactions monthly.
  • Prepare lien waivers.
  • Support process improvement initiatives, including ERP system implementation and optimization (e.g., Q360).
  • Provide financial analysis as requested by the leadership team.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend financial leadership meetings as needed.
  • Provide general administrative support as business needs arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on accounting experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close, AP/AR, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with job costing, WIP, and service/project billing, preferably within field services, construction, life safety, or a related trade.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (advanced Excel) and experience working in ERP/accounting software environments; experience with Q360 or a comparable platform is a plus.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to interpret financial data and resolve practical accounting issues.
  • Ability to apply quantitative concepts (percentages, ratios, basic statistics) in financial and operational analysis.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and follow-through.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and procedural documentation.
  • Ability to work on-site as required and maintain regular, reliable attendance, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting ERP implementations or system conversions.
