Job description

We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to support a busy hospitality accounting team in New York, New York. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is well suited for someone who wants to strengthen their accounting foundation while contributing to daily financial operations in a fast-moving hotel environment. The role offers hands-on exposure to payables, reconciliations, and revenue review while partnering closely with accounting leadership.
Responsibilities:
• Review, code, and enter vendor invoices with a high level of accuracy to ensure timely payment processing.
• Oversee the accounts payable email queue, respond to vendor questions, and direct invoices to the appropriate workflow channels.
• Support daily revenue auditing by checking financial reports, comparing figures, and investigating variances.
• Complete routine account and bank reconciliations to help maintain accurate financial records.
• Partner with the Accounting Manager on core daily accounting activities and operational priorities.
• Organize invoices, reconciliations, and related backup materials so documentation remains complete and easy to access.
• Contribute to accounts receivable and other general accounting tasks as business needs require.
• Assist with ad hoc administrative and finance-related projects that support the broader accounting function.• At least 1 year of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a closely related finance support role.
• Practical knowledge of accounts payable processing, including invoice coding and data entry.
• Familiarity with accounts receivable activities and bank reconciliation procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and accounting software such as QuickBooks.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to keep records accurate and well organized.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
• Prior exposure to hospitality or hotel accounting is helpful, though not required.
