Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.

  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for federal, state, and local prevailing wage projects.

  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws, including Davis-Bacon and state prevailing wage requirements.

  • Process payroll for multiple unions, including calculating:

  • Union dues

  • Health and welfare contributions

  • Pension contributions

  • Vacation funds

  • Apprenticeship contributions

  • Other required fringe benefits

  • Maintain accurate employee wage rates, classifications, and union assignments.

  • Verify employee timecards, equipment hours, job cost coding, and labor allocations.

  • Reconcile payroll prior to processing and resolve discrepancies.

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual union reports and payments.

  • Process garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and other payroll deductions.

  • Maintain payroll records in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.

  • Coordinate with Human Resources regarding new hires, terminations, wage changes, and employee benefits.

  • Assist with quarterly and year-end payroll reporting, including W-2 preparation.

  • Support audits by providing payroll documentation and certified payroll records.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations.

  • Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll information.

  • Assist with additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of payroll experience, preferably in the construction industry.

  • Minimum of 2 years of union payroll experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of certified payroll experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of prevailing wage regulations and labor compliance.

  • Experience processing payroll for multiple collective bargaining agreements.

  • Strong understanding of payroll taxes and payroll reporting requirements.

  • Proficiency with payroll software and Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in heavy highway, civil, or infrastructure construction.

  • Experience with accounting software such as Foundation, Viewpoint Vista, Sage, or similar construction accounting systems.
