The Senior Accountant is a key member of the finance team responsible for overseeing accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining the integrity of job costing and general ledger transactions in NetSuite. This role provides senior-level expertise, leads complex reconciliations and supports strategic decision-making. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Controller and department specialists to ensure timely and accurate financial processes, compliance, and reporting.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & General Ledger:

  • Oversee general ledger management, ensuring accurate postings and reconciliations in NetSuite.
  • Assist month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and prepaids.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and management dashboards.
  • Perform Bank Reconciliations for multiple companies and accounts.
  • Assist with Inventory
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
  • Job Costing & Project Accounting
  • Review and validate job costing entries for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with budgets.
  • Collaborate with project managers, AP/AR specialists, and operations staff to reconcile job costs, invoices, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify trends, cost variances, and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Provide senior-level guidance and support to AP and AR Specialists.
  • Review vendor invoices, credit card transactions, and customer billings for proper coding, documentation, and compliance.
  • Assist with Inventory
  • Sales & Use Tax Returns
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting standards.
  • Maintain organized and compliant financial records.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for NetSuite workflows, reporting, and job costing processes.
  • Create, review, and optimize reports, saved searches, and dashboards.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve data accuracy.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to AP/AR staff and other accounting personnel.
  • Assist the Controller with departmental training and process standardization.
  • Participate in special projects, strategic initiatives, and cross-functional finance initiatives.

Qualifications (Experience, Education & Certifications, Key Attributes):

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required

  • Advanced knowledge of job costing, construction or project-based accounting preferred.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and lead complex accounting initiatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis) and accounting software.
