Description:

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and School is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support the financial operations of our parish and school. This part-time position (24 hours per week) offers a flexible schedule and is ideal for an individual with accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration experience who enjoys working in a mission-driven environment.


The Accounting Assistant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and Parish Administration team to ensure accurate financial recordkeeping and timely processing of financial transactions.


Essential Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Process vendor invoices and payment requests.
  • Verify supporting documentation and approvals.
  • Prepare checks and electronic payments.
  • Maintain vendor files and records.
  • Assist with vendor inquiries and account reconciliations.

Accounting & Financial Support

  • Enter and post financial transactions into the accounting system.
  • Assist with bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.
  • Support parish and school financial operations as needed.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for internal review.

Month-End & Year-End Activities

  • Assist with month-end closing procedures.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with annual audits and financial reviews.
  • Support preparation of financial reports for parish leadership and councils.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial and personnel information.
  • Assist with special projects and financial analysis as assigned.
  • Collaborate with parish and school staff to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications


Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred

  • Associate's degree or coursework in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • Previous bookkeeping, accounting, or accounts payable experience.
  • Experience with accounting software and financial reporting.
  • Experience working in a church, school, nonprofit, or similar environment.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-Time: 24 hours per week
  • Flexible Schedule: Hours may be arranged in consultation with the supervisor.
