Job description

The Ark-Tex Council of Governments (ATCOG) is now accepting applications for Accounting Specialist, Announcement #2606. This is a full-time position located in the Texarkana, Texas office. Starting salary is $22.45 per hour. The position is responsible for the preparation and processing of all payables for each assigned program area and for all related areas in accordance with ATCOG Procedures

Your application MUST identify the required minimum qualifications for this position. Please detail how you meet the minimum qualifications AND respond in detail to the KSA's in the "Worked Performed" blocks of the application. You may use plain bond paper in order to effectively respond to all the KSA's.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; OR High School Diploma, or GED equivalent, and five years experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping; OR combination of education and experience proving the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (KSA's)
Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures affecting maintenance of accounting records and of automated accounting systems, payables preparation and reporting required. Knowledge of grant function and fund accounting. Skills to work quickly and accurately with numbers; prepare and maintain financial records and reports systematically and accurately. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory to difficult or complex transactions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other regional council employees, external auditors and the general public. Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a computer while performing data entry. Ability to see, hear, reach, stoop, bend, and lift and carry up to 30 pounds required. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional Requirement: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license subject to an approved motor vehicle report and reliable transportation with valid proof of insurance for travel within the ATCOG region.
