Job description

Accounting Manager

Provo, Utah · Hybrid · Full-time

Own the financial reporting, audits, and partner reporting for a growing real estate investment portfolio — and lead a team while you do it.

About the role

We are a vertically integrated real estate private equity firm. We acquire and operate conventional and affordable apartment communities in growth markets across the United States, with several billion dollars in assets under management held through active fund and joint venture structures backed by institutional and private capital. Because we operate what we own, our accounting team works close to the assets, the partners, and the decisions.

We are hiring an Accounting Manager to own financial reporting, audit coordination, and ownership-level reporting for our joint venture portfolio. You will lead roughly 50 annual entity audits, maintain partner and equity reporting across the portfolio, and act as the link between accounting, asset management, investor relations, deal leads, and external auditors. You will report jointly to the Controller and CFO, with staff and senior accountants supporting your work.

This role fits someone ready to step beyond a staff or senior accountant seat, who likes owning a process end to end and wants hands-on exposure to partnership and joint venture structures at institutional scale.

What you'll own

Financial reporting and portfolio oversight

  • Own accounting and reporting support for an active joint venture portfolio of roughly 135 properties
  • Review financial data and supporting schedules for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal reporting standards
  • Maintain ownership, equity, and partner-level reporting records for joint venture entities
  • Keep equity reconciliations and intercompany transactions tied between ownership and property financials, and the equity subledger tied to the general ledger
  • Support quarter-end and year-end close for multifamily fund vehicles

Audit coordination

  • Lead the annual audit process across roughly 50 entity audits
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external audit firms, managing timelines, requests, and deliverables
  • Prepare and review audit support schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
  • Maintain the annual audit tracker and coordinate year-end close with internal stakeholders and third-party property managers
  • Streamline audit preparation so each cycle runs cleaner than the last

Loan schedules, distributions, and fee calculations

  • Maintain monthly loan and related-party debt schedules, including interest accruals and annual interest payments
  • Review monthly and quarterly distributions across the portfolio and keep ownership trackers current alongside Investor Relations
  • Run and audit the monthly asset management fee calculation, and compile additional management fee calculations across multiple ownership entities using financials from third-party property managers

Treasury and process improvement

  • Consolidate monthly funding requests and related fee calculations, and maintain bank balance reporting
  • Periodically review open bank accounts and coordinate access to mortgage servicer portals
  • Identify and implement workflow improvements across audit preparation, reporting, and treasury processes

Team leadership

  • Review work product from accounting team members and give constructive, developmental feedback
  • Train staff to take ownership of recurring deliverables and external communication
  • Build a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement

What you bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience leading or coordinating external audits for a multi-entity portfolio
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, partnership and joint venture accounting, equity reconciliations, and intercompany transactions
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables against time-sensitive deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including direct interaction with auditors, asset managers, lenders, and investors

Preferred

  • Active CPA license
  • Real estate, joint venture, fund, or private equity accounting experience
  • Experience with Yardi and comfort working in and maintaining databases
  • Prior supervisory experience and a track record of developing accounting staff

Benefits

  • Hybrid schedule with 2 remote days per week after an initial training period
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage with employer contribution and negotiated group pricing
  • 401(k) with company match up to 3.5% of eligible compensation
  • HSA matching contribution up to $2,000 annually
  • Employer-paid life insurance and long-term disability coverage
  • Three weeks of paid time off
  • Up to 16 paid holidays, including the full week between Christmas and New Year's
  • Monthly phone allowance
  • Company events, professional development, and participation in our philanthropic program
