Position Title: Staff Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM)

Employment Type: Full‐Time


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail‐oriented Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) to support one of our clients in financial operations, compliance functions, and government program reporting. The CGFM will be responsible for analyzing financial data, ensuring adherence to government accounting standards, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting audits and regulatory reviews. This role requires deep knowledge of governmental financial management, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non‐financial stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles and applicable regulations.
  • Oversee accounting operations, including fund accounting, general ledger maintenance, and financial reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial management laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits; prepare documentation and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Monitor grant funding, program budgets, and restricted fund allocations.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets, multi‐year financial plans, and expenditure forecasts.
  • Prepare required government financial reports (e.g., SEFA, CAFR/ACFR components, or agency‐specific reports).
  • Provide financial guidance and training to staff as needed.
  • Stay current with changes in governmental accounting standards and financial management policies.


Required Qualifications

  • Active Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) credential.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in government financial management, accounting, or auditing.
  • Strong knowledge of GASB standards, fund accounting, and government reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in government financial systems and accounting software (e.g., ERP, fund accounting platforms).
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem‐solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
