Job description

CPA Firm | Full-Time | Start Date: After October 15, 2026


Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, with opportunities for performance based bonuses.


We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax & Accounting Associate to join our growing CPA firm. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who is comfortable handling a diverse workload and can work independently with minimal supervision.


The right candidate will have strong experience in tax preparation, monthly accounting, payroll processing, and month-end close, along with the critical-thinking skills necessary to research issues, identify problems, and find solutions.


Responsibilities

Tax

  • Prepare federal and state income tax returns, including:
  • Form 1040 – Individual
  • Form 1041 – Trusts & Estates
  • Form 1065 – Partnerships
  • Form 1120-S – S Corporations
  • Form 1120 – C Corporations
  • Review client information for completeness and identify missing or inconsistent information.
  • Perform tax research and resolve tax-related issues.
  • Communicate with clients regarding questions and information needed to complete returns.
  • Prepare organized and complete workpapers supporting tax return positions.


Accounting & Month-End Close

  • Manage monthly accounting for multiple business clients.
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Record adjusting journal entries.
  • Review general ledgers for unusual or incorrect transactions.
  • Complete month-end closing procedures.
  • Prepare financial statements and ensure accounts are accurate and properly supported.
  • Identify accounting issues and independently research and resolve discrepancies.

Payroll

  • Process payroll for multiple clients.
  • Prepare and/or review payroll tax filings and deposits.
  • Maintain payroll tax rates and filing requirements.
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end payroll reporting, including Forms 941, W-2 and 1099.
  • Research and resolve payroll notices and discrepancies.


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of recent public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing individual and business income tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and month-end close procedures.
  • Hands-on payroll processing experience.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Experience with professional tax preparation software; Drake Tax experience is a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • CPA or EA designation is a plus but not required for a candidate with strong relevant experience.
