We’re searching for a motivated and passionate Accountant to join our Accounting Team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accountant will primarily be responsible for keeping accurate and complete books amp; records for the Schell Brothers and its subsidiary entities that they’re assigned to. This includes recording financial transactions in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), executing month-end close procedures in accordance with the close calendar, preparing amp; issuing financial statements for any assigned entities on a timely basis, performing bank reconciliations amp; other balance sheet account reconciliations to certify the financial statements on a monthly basis, compiling supporting documentation for the external auditors/tax specialists, and being responsive to requests from Schell management, teammates, customers, vendors, and other internal/external parties.
The Accountant must provide excellent customer service and accurate financial information. Any discrepancies found during the account reconciliation process should be researched and resolved on a timely basis. The Accountant should also possess an innovative mindset and be able to either recommend or assist with the implementation of system amp; process enhancements. The Accountant will also provide ad hoc financial reporting amp; analysis, along with other duties as required.
Requirements
What is required to be an Accountant
To be qualified for this job, you’ve got to be positive, caring, analytical, amp; detail oriented. A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required (CPA license or a desire to be a CPA is preferred), and a minimum of two (2) years of corporate accounting or public accounting experience is required (please note that an equivalent combination of education and work experience can suffice). Experience with a modern accounting/finance system is required. Experience in the construction industry or with project accounting is preferred. Other skills include the following:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Outlook, Excel, amp; Word);
  • Exceptional time management skills in order to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with a high sense of urgency;
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
  • Commitment to accuracy amp; quality results;
  • Must be a team player who can work both independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in a team-oriented culture;
  • Must have an innovative mindset amp; strive for continuous improvement;
  • Must maintain professionalism amp; confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information;
  • Excellent written amp; verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively both internally and externally;
  • Must take good notes, critically think, and proactively communicate with the Controller.
