Position Summary

Washington Health is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Accountant to support payroll operations and oversee the accounts payable function. Reporting to the Accounting Manager of Accounts Payable and Payroll, this role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, effective vendor management, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The Senior Accountant will also contribute to process improvements and help strengthen the organization’s overall financial health.


Key Responsibilities

Payroll Support

  • Manage and process payroll to ensure accurate and timely employee payments.
  • Review and reconcile payroll data, benefits, and deductions.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries promptly.
  • Partner with HR to maintain accurate payroll information and ensure compliance with labor and tax laws.

Accounts Payable Oversight

  • Supervise and perform accounts payable operations, including invoice processing and vendor payments.
  • Ensure timely, accurate payments with proper documentation and approvals.
  • Monitor AP aging reports and resolve vendor discrepancies.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls and financial policies.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and analyze payroll and AP-related financial reports.
  • Reconcile related general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management for process or performance improvement.

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare documentation and support external and internal audit activities.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Train and mentor staff involved in payroll and accounts payable.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Supply Chain, and other departments to meet financial objectives.
  • Participate in special projects and identify opportunities for workflow automation and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with emphasis on payroll and accounts payable.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of payroll and AP processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, ADP, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
