Job description

Citi Trends is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
You'll work closely with the accounting team on month-end close activities, reconciliations, and audits while also contributing to process improvements that help the business operate more efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys problem-solving, collaboration, and working in a fast-paced retail environment.
What You'll Do
Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations, including bank and intercompany accounts
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments

Compliance & Audit Support
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Stay current on changes in accounting regulations and assist with implementation as needed
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries
  • Assist in implementing audit recommendations and process improvements

Process Improvement & Collaboration
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and increase efficiency
  • Support the development and implementation of new accounting procedures and systems
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support accurate and timely financial reporting

Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the accounting function and business needs.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with a focus on general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools (Power BI a plus)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential information

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA preferred, not required
  • Experience in retail, public accounting, or a publicly traded company
  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as Island Pacific or AS400
