Position Summary
The Cost Accountant (CA1) will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accurate tracking of production costs, assessing cost efficiency, and optimizing processes to maximize profitability. The CA1 manages all cost-related activities including product costing, product pricing, budgeting, manufacturing analysis, inventory valuation, month end close, COGS analysis, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and financial reporting. This position supports all departments throughout the organization on some level. Working alongside and directly reporting to the Assistant Controller, the CA1 takes ownership of the role and is granted the appropriate authority to drive change in the business.
This position requires a full-time, five-day on-site presence at our Coppell, Texas office. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Develop and maintain accurate product pricing and costing models
  • Analyze and report product, production and operational costs to identify cost-savings and cost reduction initiatives and opportunities.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly PPV reporting to internal and external customers.
  • Analyze and monitor the cost structure of the plant including direct, indirect, labor, overhead and raw materials costs.
  • Monitor and evaluate operational processes to ensure maximum production line and operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Implement and maintain a cost control system to manage expenses, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with production teams to develop and implement cost-effective solutions and resolve work order discrepancies.
  • Assess and update standard costs on a regular basis
  • Investigate and report on variances between standard and actual costs, identify root causes, draft change proposals and implement change across the organization.
  • Provide explanations for cost discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Track and report budget versus actual costs.
  • Monitor inventory levels, analyze slow-moving or obsolete items, and support inventory control efforts.
  • Serve as the Accounting lead at physical inventory with daily guidance and support for the cycle count process
  • Interact with the Sales department to develop new product pricing and maintain customer price lists in the Sage X3 ERP system.
  • Provide support to Accounts Receivable for customer product pricing discrepancies
  • Lead the Purchasing team on materials pricing verification and validation.
  • Assist in the annual financial audit including direct communication with external audit.
  • Prepare and present cost-related reports to management and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.
  • Assist with capital expense budgeting, asset tracking, and related reporting.
  • Participate in ongoing process improvement projects and initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and cost management.
  • Support the annual budget and monthly forecast processes.

Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with successful completion of collegiate level coursework in:
    • Cost Accounting
    • Forensic and/or Fraud Accounting
    • Financial Auditing
    • Accounting Data Analytics
  • 0-2 years of direct industry cost accounting experience
  • Cosmetic or manufacturing industry experience required.
  • Hands-on ERP experience required (Sage X3 Preferred).
  • Advanced Excel, financial modeling, and analytical techniques skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Willing to work irregular or extended hours, including weekends as needed.
  • Ability to count inventory, including lifting and moving boxes on occasion.
  • Routine exposure to production and warehouse environments.
  • Regularly sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit, balance, climb, stand, bend, squat, squeeze, kneel, turn, crouch, stoop repeatedly.
