Staff Accountant

AP/AR | GL Accounting | Account Reconciliations | Month-end Close


We are working with a retail company in the Triangle who is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join their finance team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense processing, sales tax, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with full cycle accounting functions assigned such as accounts receivable, cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payable, accrued expenses and sales tax processing.
  • Prepare journal entries, workpapers, and account reconciliations for entry level to complex accounting matters.
  • Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.
  • Assist in the month-end close process, prepare account reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Assist with outside audits; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Assist Controller in filing tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field is required.
  • 2+ years of related experience required.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; experience with financial consolidations and reporting for multi-divisional entities a plus
  • NetSuite experience
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Highly detail oriented and excellent organization skills
  • Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks
