Accountant Assistant Controller information

What is an accountant assistant controller?

Accountant Assistant Controllers are finance professionals who support the Controller or Chief Financial Officer in managing an organization's accounting operations. Their responsibilities often include preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, managing budgets, and assisting with audits. They also help oversee accounts payable and receivable, and may supervise junior accounting staff. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting strategic financial planning within a company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an accountant assistant controller?

To thrive as an Accountant Assistant Controller, you need strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and a relevant degree such as a bachelor's in accounting or finance, often accompanied by a CPA or CMA certification. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, advanced Excel skills, and experience with financial reporting tools are typically required. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills help you collaborate effectively and solve complex financial problems. These competencies are crucial for ensuring accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and informed decision-making in the organization.

How does an accountant assistant controller typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

An Assistant Controller frequently works cross-functionally, collaborating with various departments such as operations, sales, and human resources to ensure financial accuracy and compliance. They often help coordinate budget planning, support internal audits, and provide financial insights to support decision-making. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for this role, as Assistant Controllers often translate complex financial data into actionable information for non-financial managers. This collaboration builds relationships across the organization and enhances the overall financial health of the company.

Executive Assistant & Controller

McLean & Potomac Dermatology and Skincare Center

Location: McLean, VA (on-site) | Full-Time, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

The Role

McLean & Potomac Dermatology and Skincare Center was founded by Dr. Lily Talakoub, a board-certified dermatologist recognized by Vogue, Allure, and Bloomberg for her work in patient education and dermatologic care. Since then, she's grown her brand to include Derm to Door, her virtual dermatology and skincare platform, and a new West Palm Dermatology and Skincare Center location, all rooted in the same warm, uplifting environment.

We're looking for an Executive Assistant & Controller to manage the financial operations and day-to-day priorities behind the scenes as the practice grows. You'll be the one keeping the books, the collections, and the founder's schedule running smoothly.

Our schedule is especially well-suited for someone returning to the workforce after time away who wants meaningful, high-level work without a grueling schedule.

What You'll Do

  • Own bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting across the organization
  • Manage collections and A/R (including patient/insurance billing), plus A/P and vendor relationships
  • Prepare regular financial reports; liaise with outside CPAs/tax preparers
  • Manage the founder's calendar, correspondence, and daily priorities
  • Handle confidential matters with discretion; anticipate needs before they're asked

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's or CPA a plus
  • 2+ years in accounting/controllership, with hands-on collections experience
  • 1+ years supporting a senior executive or business owner
  • Experience in a luxury environment
  • Extremely organized, discreet, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities at once
  • Strong QuickBooks/accounting software skills

Compensation & Benefits

Range $70,000 - $125,000
