We are looking for an Accounts Payable Manager to lead the end-to-end payables function for a growing shipping organization in Rochester, New York. This position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who can balance day-to-day execution with process oversight in a fast-moving environment. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with accounting leadership, support cross-functional communication, and help strengthen payment operations as the business continues to expand.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the complete accounts payable cycle, from invoice review and coding through payment processing and record maintenance.
• Manage timely disbursements through checks and ACH transactions while ensuring accuracy, approvals, and policy compliance.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external contacts to resolve invoice issues, answer payment-related questions, and maintain strong working relationships.
• Monitor expense report activity within Concur and ensure submissions are processed correctly and in alignment with company guidelines.
• Support the structure and efficiency of the AP function by identifying workflow improvements and adapting priorities as business needs shift.
• Provide day-to-day guidance to accounts payable support staff or emerging team members, with a focus on accountability and service quality.
• Partner with accounting leadership on reporting, reconciliations, and broader departmental initiatives tied to company growth.
• Assist with changes to processes, responsibilities, or system-related workflows as the finance team evolves.
• Maintain organized documentation and internal controls to support audit readiness and reliable financial operations.
• At least 5 years of accounts payable experience, including ownership of high-volume or full-cycle AP activities.
• Strong working knowledge of invoice coding, check runs, and ACH payment processing.
• Broader accounting experience is preferred and would be valuable in supporting the wider finance team.
• Prior supervisory experience is helpful, though candidates with clear leadership ability will also be considered.
• Comfort working in an environment where priorities can change quickly and flexibility is essential.
• Experience using Concur for expense reporting or a comparable expense management platform.
• A degree is preferred, but equivalent practical experience will be considered.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and effective communication skills.
