Job description

Description

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000
Job Type: Full-Time (Exempt)

The Accessibility Auditor supports QuaverEd's accessibility initiatives by conducting detailed reviews of web applications, digital platforms, and multimedia content to ensure compliance with WCAG standards. Working closely with our software development team is a core part of this role, requiring the ability to inspect code-level issues (HTML/ARIA) and translate WCAG criteria into actionable developer feedback. Additionally, this position requires solid practical skills in PDF accessibility and remediation, ensuring all digital document deliverables are fully compliant. The Accessibility Auditor works closely with developers, the Digital Accessibility Manager, and our screen reader expert to uphold QuaverEd's commitment to equitable and inclusive learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with web developers and front-end engineers to identify accessibility barriers, review code-level fixes, and ensure new features are built accessibly from the start.
  • Conduct manual and semi-automated accessibility testing of web products and digital platforms, inspecting semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, and keyboard focus management.
  • Document and track accessibility defects through their entire lifecycle in our bug-tracking system (e.g., Asana).
  • Provide the development team with clear, actionable technical feedback-including precise reproduction steps, relevant code snippets (HTML/ARIA), and recommended fixes.
  • Actively monitor the progress of these bugs, collaborate with developers during the remediation process.
  • Evaluate, tag, and remediate PDF documents to ensure compliance with PDF/UA and WCAG standards using Adobe Acrobat Pro and other remediation tools.
  • Conduct manual accessibility testing with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) and other assistive technologies across various browsers and devices.
  • Work closely with our in-house screen reader expert, participating in collaborative testing sessions and translating user experience challenges into technical bug reports.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in digital accessibility, auditing, or a closely related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, Section 508, and Title II of the ADA.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or alongside people with disabilities in testing or feedback environments.
  • Familiarity with accessibility considerations in visual design and multimedia resources (e.g., color contrast, text alternatives, audio/video accessibility).
  • Understanding of inclusive, human-centered, and universal design principles.
  • Experience conducting manual accessibility testing of PDFs, video/media, websites, or digital products with assistive technologies across multiple platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accessibility, Human-Computer Interaction, Education, Instructional Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Accessibility certifications such as CPACC, ADS, or similar are preferred but not required.

Technical Skills and Attributes

  • Solid understanding of semantic HTML and the proper application of WAI-ARIA roles, states, and properties.
  • Experience using browser developer tools (such as Chrome DevTools Accessibility Pane, Lighthouse, or Axe DevTools) to inspect elements and debug accessibility trees.
  • Proficiency using screen reader technologies (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) for evaluation and testing.
  • Strong, hands-on knowledge of PDF accessibility and remediation practices, including tagging, reading order, alt text, form fields, and document structure.
  • Ability to clearly identify, document, and track accessibility issues, including creating reproducible steps and recommended fixes.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to "speak developer" and explain complex accessibility concepts clearly to engineering teams.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment, discretion, and integrity.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous learning in accessibility standards, tools, and best practices.
