Job description

  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
    • Courteously and promptly interviews patients and/or family members requiring inpatient or outpatient services at the Medical Center, during pre-admission, admission, while in-house or at discharge. The interview may take place in a variety of locations including bedside in the ED, Main Admitting or various outpatient locations. Accurately enters all demographic and insurance information into hospital registration system, performs various related verification functions to assure positive patient identification, complies with HIPAA privacy regulations, ensures accurate upfront cash collection and appropriate insurance reimbursement.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
    • Experience:
      • Admitting and Meditech experience preferred.
      • One year experience in hospital environment preferred.
    • Education and Training:
      • Two years of college (secretarial/health related) or equivalent work experience.
      • Medical terminology preferred.
    • License, Certification & Registration:
      • None
    • Other Requirements:
      • Proven typing ability (40 wpm) and computer skills (i.e. Meditech).
      • Manual dexterity necessary for typing/computer purposes.
      • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
      • Ability to speak the English language in a clearly understandable manner.
      • Ability to speak/understand Spanish preferred.
      • Ideal candidate will demonstrate and maintain a high level of flexibility.
      • Proven ability to interact appropriately with the community, hospital staff and physicians while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
      • Proven outstanding customer service skills, consistently demonstrating a professional and pleasant presentation.
      • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team.
      • Proven ability and experience dealing with agitated and or dissatisfied persons.
      • Must possess and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
      • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain proper operation of business equipment.
