Job Summary
The Director Education for the LA Galaxy is responsible for providing the overall direction of the high school education program, upholding the integrity of learning, and pushing the importance of education within the realm of professional soccer. The Director Education is responsible for successfully incorporating the LA Galaxy's mission, vision, and core values into the education program, which are used as the backbone of all conceptualized ideas that are brought to fruition.
Essential Functions
- Maintain and strengthen the high school's identity and visibility across all club environments, including LA Galaxy, LA Galaxy II, and the LA Galaxy Academy.
- Build policies and structures that reinforce a positive Academy culture and support holistic player development.
- Regularly assess program outcomes to identify strengths and improvement areas.
- Support soccer staff in prioritizing academic integrity while staying aligned with club goals.
- Create and distribute monthly newsletters, calendars, and academic updates for families and staff.
- Engage Galaxy staff to integrate them into the high school community.
- Leverage club networks and partnerships to build and sustain the high school within budget.
- Serve as an active member of the Academy Disciplinary Committee.
- Manage student success and accountability Track student progress, academic performance, and student accountability.
- Ensure integrity of student effort put into coursework which includes academic honesty.
- Support staff in addressing student concerns and serve as final decision-maker for academic, behaviorial and scheduling issues
- Ensure consistency in the implementation of policies and procedures
- Oversee the scheduling and logistics of the education program:
- Bi-weekly meetings with Academy Director and Academy Manager
- Create monthly calendar for the Academy
- Manages day-to-day changes in schedule
- Lead and oversee special events such as orientation (students and parents), graduation and other recognition events
- Liason for Educational Partner and College Counseling/Recruitment
- Collaborate with California Online Public Schools staff (middle school and high school)
- Initial contact to families providing enrollment information
- Track and oversee enrollment process for families
- Liaison between new families and California Online Public Schools enrollment department
- Special onboarding for new families
- Assists Academy Director with College Recruitment parent education and communication with families
- Maintain and support staff training and management
- Provide constructive coaching and feedback for Education staff
- Education staff meetings - once a week (formally)
- Academic Advisor/Learning Coach meetings - once a month (formally)
- Content Specialist meetings - once a month (formally)
- Lead planning and implementation of the Enrichment Program.
- Community outreach (One event a month (in partnership with Foundation efforts))
- Character development
- Life skills development
- Guest speakers (Academy Alumni, LA Galaxy front office staff, Career Day Series of Speakers, other Galaxy departments (Performance, Nutrition, Cognitive)
- Spring Semester Book Club
- Track and report all data collection & program evaluation for the club.
- Year to year GPA Tracking
- Ensure students are enrolled in courses required for UC/CSU admissions
- Number of students enrolled in Advanced Placement classes
- Dropout Rate
- Graduation Rate
- Post-graduation plans
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree (4-year) (Advanced Degree Preferred) In Education
- 4-6 years Classroom teaching experience
- 6-8 years Related work experience
- Experience in developing and delivering high school educational programs
- Proven experience mentoring and guiding students through the educational process
- Training in teaching pedagogy and mentoring practices
- Self-motivated with strong leadership skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to learn required business technology/systems
- Ability to assist students adapt their preferred learning styles to be successful with an online curriculum
- Ability to apply recent developments, current literature, and information related to curriculum and instruction for online learners
- Strong organizational skills
- Proven collaborator with a history of working closely with a variety of colleagues
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including problem solving and conflict resolution
- Ability to work independently and make decisions
- Possesses a sincere interest in helping others achieve life goals related to education
- Goal oriented and highly ethical
- Ability to inspire and motivate staff, students, and employees
- Knowledge of the soccer development program and philosophy highly desired
Payscale: $112,632.00 - $135,000.00
Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus under the current bonus plan requirements.
