Parking Requirement: A on-time charge of $37.50
Position Summary: The Tutor (Academic Tutor) supports student success in mathematics at Montgomery College by providing individualized academic assistance focused on math placement readiness and foundational skill development. This role guides students through math assessment and placement processes, offering targeted support in study strategies and academic planning. The Academic Tutor also assists students in identifying appropriate academic pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct, front-line services to students
  • Assist students in navigating the ALEKS math placement process
  • Use available resources to provide individualized guidance and support in various areas, including academic goal setting, targeted remediation, study skills, and anxieties related to math
  • Identify students who are experiencing delays or difficulties in the math placement process, ensuring these difficulties do not become barriers or create delays in students' academic progress
  • Reach out to students who have started the placement process but need a little nudge to complete it
  • Offer guidance regarding Math Power Boost and academic support for students who do not assess into a math course
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders about ALEKS-related technical issues

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of (4) years of experience in tutoring or teaching mathematics at or above the developmental level
  • Skilled in using computers and technology relevant to assisting and supporting students in a computer classroom or to preparing reports or other written materials.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and educational materials in mathematics
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Education:
  • BS in Mathematics, Math Education, or related field
