Job description
- Implements intentional, evidencebased programs, policies, and procedures designed to support student success, retention, and persistence.
- Assists with short and longrange planning for student retention initiatives, with an emphasis on firstyear student transition and sustained success beyond the first year.
- Actively participates in departmental committees focused on student retention programs, advising technologies, data analysis, or other critical student success functions.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to execute and continuously improve student success initiatives.
Academic Advising and Coaching
- Advises and coaches a caseload of approximately 140-160 first and second-year students through their transition to the University.
- Ensures second-year students successfully transition to a faculty advisor within their major or program.
- Supports and monitors students' academic progress, personal and social adjustment, major requirements, and success strategies.
- Advises students on course selection and assists with course registration processes.
- Proactively identifies and supports atrisk students, connecting them with appropriate University resources and offices to address academic, personal, and social challenges.
- Empowers students to develop selfadvocacy skills and build a foundation for longterm academic and personal success.
Early Alert Systems and Data Integrity
- Utilizes the full functionality of the early alert and advising systems to document student appointments, degree progression, academic alerts, progress surveys, and interventions.
- Maintains accurate and timely student records while adhering to data integrity and confidentiality standards.
- Uses student data to inform advising strategies, outreach efforts, and program improvements.
FirstYear Experience Curriculum and Instruction
- Delivers firstyear experience course curriculum, including learning outcomes, mandatory classroom activities, and assessment strategies.
- Instructs 4-6 sections of the FirstYear Experience course each academic year.
- Supports students' holistic development by promoting campus engagement, resource awareness, and academic skill development.
- Serves as a resource to students and advisors both inside and outside the classroom, providing accurate and timely information and feedback.
University Programs and Enrollment Support
- Actively participates in enrollment events and programs, orientation activities, and fall opening initiatives.
- Develops fall course schedule for new students based on degree requirements, student needs and accommodations, and student interests; continually adjusts schedules through the summer and academic year as needed and according to institutional regulations.
- Connects with students and families in advance of the semester to address questions related to course schedules, locations, textbooks, or other transitional needs.
Collaboration and Service Delivery
- Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective working relationships across the University of Hartford to support a positive and coordinated academic experience.
- Supports the University's high-touch service model by responding to student and parent inquiries, processing paperwork and registrations, and serving as a liaison to other campus departments.
- May serve on Universitywide committees as assigned to advance institutional student success priorities.
Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Center for Student Success and University goals.
