Job description
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Associate Dean of Natural Health & Sciences and Allied Health, the Program Director for the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program is the manager of all functions associated with the operation of the existing Physical Therapist Assistant program and establishing new PTA programs. The responsibilities of this position include the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program, building and facilitation of clinical partnerships administration, budget development and management, maintenance of CAPTE accreditation, the development, validation, and revision of program objectives and courses, student counseling, advising, and teaching.
To effectively perform these functions, the PTA Program Director exercises a considerable degree of independent judgment, subject to periodic direction, review, and evaluation by the Associate Dean of Natural & Health Sciences and Allied Health. In addition, the person has primary responsibility for supervision of faculty, adjunct didactic and clinical faculty and the student clinical experience. This position includes didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: DPT - Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree preferred; Master's degree in Physical Therapy or related field with a PTA degree would be considered.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Be either a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) or licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
- Hold an active, unrestricted PT or PTA license in Massachusetts
- At least 3 years of clinical experience in the physical therapy field
- At least 3 years of teaching, preferably with at least one year teaching experience in a PTA program
- Experience in conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation and evaluation of program effectiveness.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to use techniques and equipment consistent with physical therapy education.
- Current CPR certification.
- Candidate must be able to meet clinical site CORI requirements pursuant to licensing and CAPTE regulations.
- Proof of valid, unrestricted driver's license.
- Meet all health requirements per Program and PTA Clinical affiliation requirements pertaining to but not limited to vaccinations, antibody titers, chest x-ray, etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for oversight and organization of all program activities, including adjunct instructors and clinical activities.
TRAVEL: Local travel including the Quincy and Plymouth campuses and occasional travel to QC-Boston location is required
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: THE FOLLOWING ARE THE COMPETENCY STATEMENTS AND CORRESPONDING PERFORMANCE STANDARDS REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION.
- Oversee all activity related to program accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and meeting other accreditation and statewide requirements (e.g. DHE, DPH, NECHE) as applicable.
- Maintain current knowledge regarding needed curricular changes via contacts with professional accrediting bodies and associations, advisory committees, employer groups, and others.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation and reports, ensure that required or requested information is submitted promptly and accurately.
- Collect, check adequacy, of and initiate permanent student records regarding clinical preparatory information (immunization record, CPR certification, malpractice insurance, physicals and health insurance information, CORI check) according to department's needs. Follow up with written documents and distribute to clinical affiliates.
- In consultation with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Associate Dean of Natural & Health Sciences and Allied Health manage hiring of all program faculty (full time and adjunct; didactic and clinical, including working with Human Resources staff on the development of job announcements, recruitment of qualified applicants, reviewing credentials, screening of applicant information, interviewing, and recommending to the Associate Dean.
- Provide oversight/supervision and time approving to clinical coordinators, Limited Part Time (LPT) staff, and adjuncts instructors.
- Uphold Program, Divisional and College policies, procedures, and practices; communicate this information to PTA faculty and ensure that policies are supported and carried out.
- Participate in scheduled program review, including, the review and revision of department curriculum regularly (at least every two years), course outline, textbooks, library holdings and related materials used for instruction.
- Provide direction for instructors in the development, implementation and evaluation of program curriculum.
- Plan educational programs as needed for clinical preceptors and adjunct clinical instructors to communicate student's clinical objectives, expectations, and behavior while in the clinical setting.
- In collaboration with program instructors, recommend to the Dean appropriate items for inclusion in the Department annual budget.
- Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies necessary to manage department based on student enrollment. Order supplies and equipment as needed.
- Assume teaching responsibilities for content in appropriate courses within the Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Maintain a regular schedule of office hours and provide appropriate academic counseling, advising, and tutorial support to students.
- Sign and approve individual student schedules for course enrollment.
- In collaboration with program faculty and Dean, address and resolve student issues.
- Oversee the clinical assignments, orientation, communications with clinical affiliates, as necessary.
- Working with enrollment and marketing, participate in College and PTA recruitment activities on behalf of Quincy College.
- Based on program review and accreditation standards, regularly update admission, progression, and graduation requirements for students enrolled in the PTA program.
- Work with program faculty and Associate Dean of Natural & Health Sciences and Allied Health to prepare and edit Catalog materials, program policies, program sheets, and course descriptions related to the PTA program.
- Work closely with admissions and registration staff and other departments to ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is disseminated to all students and potential applicants.
- Develop and submit to Associate Dean of Natural & Health Sciences and Allied Health on Associate Dean proposed departmental class schedules and faculty assignments.
- In conjunction with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Associate Dean, and program faculty initiate and maintain contractual agreements with appropriate health care agencies for student clinical learning experiences and workforce development partnerships.
- Participate in divisional and college-wide duties and committees as assigned.
- Plan and hold regular PTA Advisory Board meetings.
- In conjunction with the Associate Dean and program faculty establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with clinical partners.
- Participate in mandatory training/coursework. Including but not limited to:
- Canvas, Quality Matters, and Canvas Studio
- Drug-Free Workplace
- Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
- FERPA
- Bi-Annual Municipal Ethics Law
- Other duties as assigned.
