College Board -Global Strategy and Talent, LATAM

Location:San Juan, Puerto Rico.This is a hybrid role and requires the candidate to be on-site at CB offices every Tuesday and Wednesday.

About the Team

The Technology Team at the College Board Latin America Office is a diverse group of five talented individuals whose work spans software development through infrastructure. We manage our own servers, applications, and databases on the Amazon Cloud, along with SharePoint sites and our public website (LATAM.collegeboard.org).

We follow Agile principles within a SCRUM framework while maintaining DevOps practices, and support vendor risk assessments, security audits, and accessibility reviews for internal and external platforms. We keep track of remediation and mitigation plans to ensure compliance with PCI, PII, SOC2, ISO 27001, and WCAG standards, while also providing endpoint support for our main site in Puerto Rico.

We work closely with our IT counterparts across College Board to leverage shared knowledge and best practices.

About the Opportunity

As Senior Director of Technology, you are a strategic and hands-on leader driving the digital transformation of our LATAM operations. You will shape and deliver innovative technology solutions that enhance service delivery, improve customer satisfaction, and expand our impact for students and partners across the region. You will lead and develop a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative, agile environment grounded in accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.

You bring a strong background in technology and project management to evolve our operating model and ensure alignment with College Board's enterprise architecture strategy and security standards. You will drive agile processes and workflows while fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and promoting flexibility across teams. You will identify opportunities to re-engineer business processes, streamline operations, and implement systems and tools that meet customer needs while supporting divisional goals.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders, providing strategic, operational, and technical expertise to drive aligned outcomes. You demonstrate strong leadership, creativity, and the ability to effectively organize and prioritize work, while communicating clearly and influencing stakeholders. A passion for education and commitment to making a meaningful impact on students' lives are essential.

In this role, you will:

Strategy & Communication (40%)

  • Develop a deep understanding of College Board's business priorities and translate them into actionable technology strategies that support program growth, customer experience, and operational excellence across the LATAM region.

  • Lead the development and continuous evolution of the LATAM technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise Technology Guiding Principles, digital transformation priorities, and the longterm strategic direction of the organization.

  • Drive internal efficiency and productivity by championing standardization, simplification, process reengineering, automation opportunities, and improved crossteam alignment to enhance service delivery and reduce operational friction.

  • Maintain deep knowledge of emerging technologies and industry trends, assessing their relevance to LATAM needs, and recommending strategic improvements that optimize systems, enhance customer experience, and support continuous improvement.

Development and implementation (30%)

  • Analyze and understand the critical interdependencies across technology, operations, academic programs, customer support, and business workflows to ensure that technology solutions deliver the intended operational and customer outcomes.

  • Ensure that all system designs and technical implementations comply with College Board's security policies, data governance frameworks, and accessibility standards, embedding securebydesign and inclusive design principles across all projects.

  • Translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements and systems design specifications, enabling teams and vendors to deliver highquality, scalable technology solutions.

  • Implement and govern Project Management best practices, ensuring disciplined execution, transparent reporting, risk mitigation, and the adoption of Agile methodologies across the LATAM technology portfolio.

  • Build and maintain strong, trustbased relationships with onshore and offshore software development teams and external vendors to ensure highquality delivery, alignment to standards, and longterm value creation.

Team Management (30%)

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing technology team, including four direct reports, ensuring strong execution and delivery of organizational priorities.

  • Establish clear roles and accountability, fostering a culture of open communication, continuous feedback, learning, and operational excellence.

  • Promote strong cross-functional collaboration, ensuring that teams work effectively with Product, Operations, Security, and business stakeholders across LATAM and the broader organization.

  • Set vision and priorities for the team, track and manage progress to goals, and provide coaching and support to ensure team members meet and exceed goals, remain engaged, and contribute meaningfully to our mission

  • Cultivate an inclusive and high achieving culture that enables all team members to live out College Board's Operating Principles.

About You

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • 10 years of progressive experience in software engineering and technology leadership, including at least 5 years leading engineering teams in complex, production environments

  • Strong foundation as a software engineer or software engineering leader, with the ability to lead system design, architecture decisions, and engage hands-on when needed

  • Proven experience building and modernizing cloud-based, scalable systems on AWS, including serverless and distributed architecture, and guiding teams from legacy to modern technology stacks (e.g. Node.js, React, Microservices)

  • Experience operating within Agile environments, with a track record of delivering complex technical projects on time and with high quality

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to translate between technical and business stakeholders and deliver effective presentations; fluency in both Spanish and English (native or near-native)

  • Significant experience supporting business development efforts, including developing strategic proposals and partnering with stakeholders to deliver high-impact technical solutions

  • Proven leadership in driving technological innovation, improving customer experience, and delivering operational efficiencies

  • Fluid understanding of data governance, including data privacy, security, and regulatory considerations within the United States and elsewhere

  • Build and manage strong and trusting relationships with onshore/offshore software development and Cloud organizations

  • Excellent negotiation skills and strong leadership in procuring and managing external vendors and service providers

  • A strategic and inclusive leadership style: you set clear priorities, build effective team structures, plan for future needs, and foster a culture of belonging

  • A proven ability to drive performance and growth: you set high expectations, deliver real-time, evidence-based feedback, and coach team members to take smart risks, stretch their skills, and achieve meaningful impact

  • The ability to travel up to 4 times a year to other College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business
