Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.
Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.
Medgar Evers College is seeking applicants for the Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) Director position. The ASAP Director will report to the Senior Vice President fot Student success & Enrollment Management and will oversee the operations of the campus ASAP program. ASAP is a comprehensive program designed to help students earn their Associate's degree as quickly as possible through provision of comprehensive academic, advisement, and career support services for eligible students at CUNY colleges.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience.
The preferred candidate will have:
- Master's degree in a related discipline
- Demonstrated management and supervisory skills as well as budget oversight and planning experience
- Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators
- Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities
- Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite and aptitude to learn new systems as needed
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Financial incentives include tuition waivers for financial aid eligible students, yearly textbook vouchers, and MetroCards for all students. Further information is available at www.cuny.edu/ASAP.
The Director oversees all activities related to ASAP and represents the College's ASAP program within and outside the College.
- Develops and implements policy to meet the Program's mission, collaborating with other College units
- Administers a comprehensive portfolio of services, and assesses the various components of the ASAP program to improve services to students
- Provides a highly-supportive environment by overseeing staff such as advisors and job developers and by developing relevant programs, workshops, and activities
- Manages tracking, reporting, and analysis of outcomes data, and systems to track and manage individual students' progress
- Manages staff and budget consistent with program goals
- Performs related duties as assigned
