The Department of Allied Health in the School of Health Sciences at the University of New Haven is seeking to hire a Faculty Member and Program Director for the BS in Paramedicine Program (On-Ground) for August 2026.
General Duties:
The Program Director will provide academic leadership to faculty, students and instructors of the University of New Haven Paramedicine Program. The Director maintains a climate of open communication, collegiality, and teamwork within the program, and actively supports the professional growth and development of the faculty and instructors. The Program Director ensures the availability of quality learning opportunities for students. The Program Director has responsibility for teaching, curriculum development, instructor assignment, course scheduling, and program review, student learning outcomes assessment, student advising and scheduling, professional development, institutional service, community service, and community relations. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the Program Director has supervisory and administrative authority over the full time and adjunct faculty and instructors in the program.
You will:
Program leadership, administration, and planning: Administer, organize, supervise, and continuously develop the Paramedicine program, including long-range planning, program review, policy updates, Advisory Board participation, and delegated responsibilities.
Curriculum, instruction, and assessment: Plan, implement, evaluate, and revise Paramedicine courses; oversee classroom content, testing, item analysis, assignments, examinations, and student learning outcomes assessment.
Faculty, instructor, and preceptor oversight: Provide leadership to faculty, instructors, coordinators, and preceptors; schedule instructional coverage; orient, train, supervise, evaluate, and support professional development based on student and instructor feedback.
Student advising, progression, and records: Advise four cohorts of Paramedicine students twice annually; guide and evaluate students’ clinical and academic progress; communicate course requirements, attendance expectations, evaluation procedures, academic standing, and program continuation decisions.
Compliance, accreditation, and reporting: Prepare required reports and self-studies for the University, NREMT, and CoAEMSP/CAAHEP; submit enrollment, grading, attendance, scholastic, and personnel records by published deadlines; coordinate advanced-level NREMT testing.
Clinical, field, and learning environment operations: Maintain safe, effective, and flexible learning environments across classrooms, labs, simulations, ambulances, hospitals, and field settings; ensure equipment readiness, student privacy, training-record confidentiality, and appropriate student medical, vaccination, and protective-clothing compliance.
Budget, partnerships, and community engagement: Collaborate with the Department Chair and School Dean on program budget preparation and administration; maintain cooperative involvement with the medical director; develop relationships with affiliated clinical agencies and community partners; participate in recruiting activities.
Professional responsibilities: Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics, participate in departmental and college-wide professional development, and hold regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
You need:
Graduate degree in a relevant health professions, education, public health, emergency services, or related field; candidates with a graduate degree in progress and substantial relevant experience may be considered.
Demonstrated experience teaching, coordinating, or leading EMS, paramedicine, emergency care, health professions, or related clinical education courses.
Current Connecticut EMS certification or licensure, national EMS certification, nursing licensure, or other relevant health professional credential appropriate to the role; paramedic licensure or certification preferred.
Connecticut EMS Instructor certification, or eligibility and willingness to obtain certification within an established timeframe.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience.
Be knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students.
Have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care.
Have academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of a paramedic.
Be knowledgeable about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical practice.
Knowledge concerning national curricula, national accreditation, national registration, and the requirements for state and national certification and/or licensure in Connecticut and NREMT.
