About the Office of Experiential and Engaged Learning (E2L)

Note on Working Time

This position must be available to work in person during standard Georgia Tech business hours M-F, 8-5 (or 7-4 or 9-6) as well as some evenings and weekends with advance notice. We are looking for hardworking professionals who are dedicated to undergraduate education and to students as our top priority to join our talented, energetic, and creative team members.

Undergraduate Research provides leadership and support for the growth, quality, and assessment of undergraduate research at the institution. The position will support high-quality mentorship across campus, oversee curricular programming, supervise staff who provide student-facing programming, and partner with units across campus.

This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, Academic Professional position (academic rank may be negotiable depending on selected candidate's credentials). The Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (OUESS) challenges students to become accomplished learners who are able to make meaningful connections among work, study, and community. We connect curricular and co-curricular offerings to assist students in developing a strong foundation for success, during college and after. We do this through the efforts of our professional staff and student assistants

The Associate Director for Undergraduate Research oversees the operations of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), with a focus on curricular administration and mentor-facing support. The Associate Director's duties include, but are not limited to:

Programming

• Provide faculty and graduate student mentor professional development as it relates to undergraduate research. This includes identifying (or developing/adapting) and delivering workshops and cultivating communities of practice.
• Oversee the undergraduate research curriculum, which includes operations of the Research Option and the research themed sections of the Academic Transition programs first-year seminar courses for freshmen and transfer students.
• Supervise and help shape the work of staff who provide student-facing programming, marketing and communications.
• In partnership with UROP team, assess program effectiveness and strategize future programming
• Prepare reports and summaries on undergraduate research engagement for colleges and OUESS leadership.
• Oversee communication and marketing of UROP and other undergraduate research in alignment with OUESS, E2L, and GT strategies, policies and procedures.
• Stay abreast of local and national trends related to undergraduate research; subject to budget availability, participate in and present at relevant local and national conferences and workshops.

Campus Partnerships

• Collaborate with campus units and colleges and provide professional development for undergraduate research mentors.
• Build a community of practice among undergraduate research program coordinators housed in units across campus.
• In partnership with the Director of Undergraduate Research and Executive Director of E2L, initiate and support a faculty advisory board for undergraduate research
• Contribute to the establishment of and engage with college and campus-level advisory boards.
• Participate in campus committees; Ensure UROP representation at student programs, orientations and related events (e.g., FASET, GT1000, Family Weekend, GTAAN) to promote programs and services.

Administrative

• Administer budget
• and operational matters associated with programs.
• Participate fully in all programs, events, and other aspects of OUESS, including trainings, town halls, marketing, outreach, operations and campus relations.
• Supervise professional and student staff as assigned.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in the candidate's discipline is possible but is dependent on supervisor and departmental approval.

Earned doctorate or Ph.D. from a research-intensive university, preferably with a background in STEM academic disciplines or a discipline represented at Georgia Tech.

Internal (GT) Applicants

Current full-time GT appointment as tenured or tenure-track faculty at any rank or as academic professional at any rank.

External (non-GT) Applicants

Academic Professional

Terminal degree.

Significant related experience or promotion from the rank of Associate Academic Professional.

Quality of performance and potential development must be recognized by peers.

Senior Academic Professional

Terminal degree.

Evidence of superior performance in the chosen field.

Recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local).

Successful and measurable related experience.

Five (5) years or more as an Academic Professional (or equivalent rank).

Principal Academic Professional

Terminal degree.

Evidence of superior performance in the chosen field.

Recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local).

Successful and measurable related experience supervising others' work.

Successful and measurable related experience in a position of significant responsibility and authority within a program area.

Demonstrated impact.

Six (6) years or more as a Senior Academic Professional (or equivalent rank).

At least 5 years of professional experience in higher education, preferably in a faculty, research scientist, or higher education administration position. Recent PhDs with equivalent years of related administrative experience during or prior to their graduate work will be considered.

Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate students in research.

Familiarity with the university research environment, ideally with a STEM focus, as well as a commitment to faculty collaboration and undergraduate student academic and professional growth.

Experience mentoring/leading undergraduate researchers.

Knowledge of best practices in undergraduate research and/or mentorship; Familiarity with scholarly publications and current trends in undergraduate research and/or mentorship.

Experience bringing stakeholders together and building community.

Strong communication skills required (verbal, written, public speaking, and interpersonal communication)

Experience in expanding access and supporting student success.

Data analysis and reporting.

Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's background and experience.
