Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor I - Boca Raton, FL.
The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters seeks a student-centered Academic Advisor I to provide holistic academic advising and support undergraduate students. This role focuses on guiding students through academic decision-making, promoting student success and timely degree completion, and fostering independence through developmental advising practices. The advisor will collaborate with colleagues, faculty, and campus partners while contributing to retention and engagement initiatives.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Provides accurate and holistic advisement to students majoring in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters.
  • Utilizes existing tools and resources effectively.
  • Assists students with decision-making, problem-solving, goal-setting/attainment strategies, and makes appropriate recommendations and/or referrals.
  • Facilitates student independence and learning via the advisement relationship and interactions, based on understanding and application of academic advising practices, theoretical frameworks, and student development theory.
  • Communicates and works effectively with Student Academic Services colleagues; makes positive and constructive contributions to foster a collegial team environment.
  • Creates and maintains academic and electronic records for students/advisers.
  • Tracks student progress and assists with outreach/retention efforts.
  • Collaborates with other student-centered offices across the University to facilitate student success and completion.
  • Communicates with College faculty and leadership as appropriate.
  • Participates in University-led student recruitment and orientation activities as well as College-specific events to increase student engagement and retention.
  • Takes initiative to engage in professional development and learning opportunities specific to the advising field.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
