What does a part-time remote academic advisor do?

A part-time remote academic advisor helps students with course selection, academic planning, and navigating university policies, all from a remote location. They communicate with students via email, phone, or video calls to provide guidance on degree requirements and assist with academic challenges. These advisors also connect students to campus resources and support services, ensuring they stay on track to meet their educational goals while working flexible hours.

Job description

The Brandeis University Office of Admissions is seeking seasonal readers for the 2026-2027 admission cycle to help with all aspects of our undergraduate application review process. The admissions review is completed holistically, taking into consideration each applicant's personal, academic, and extracurricular credentials within the context of a selective admissions environment.

This is a paid, hourly, remote position that requires a time commitment of 10-20 hours a week from mid-October until mid-March, with, November, December, and January being the busiest months. This role offers flexible scheduling, with the ability to set your own hours-including nights and weekends-while maintaining regular check-ins with your supervisor during standard business hours.

Seasonal readers will be trained remotely via Zoom on the Slate platform used by Brandeis undergraduate admissions. Seasonal readers must be able to read quickly, carefully, and objectively and will need to maintain frequent communication with the admissions office and be receptive to guidance and feedback from admissions staff.

All applications are read online. Candidates must have a computer with access to a reliable, high-speed internet connection, and must have access to a private, secure location in which to work.

We cannot consider candidates who either currently work closely with high school students or are college admission professionals, including high school counselors and independent consultants, or are employees or admission volunteers at another undergraduate institution. We also cannot consider candidates who are the parents/guardians of a high school junior or senior.

Bachelor's degree required and previous college application evaluation experience preferred. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality. Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, analytical skills, exceptional judgment, and time management skills. Compensation begins at $24/hour.

Candidates must live in Massachusetts, California, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, or Vermont.

Pay Range Disclosure

The University's pay ranges represent a good faith estimate of what Brandeis reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Brandeis University is an equal opportunity employer which does not discriminate against any applicant or employee on the basis of race, color, ancestry, religious creed, gender identity and expression, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, genetic information, disability, caste, military or veteran status or any other category protected by law (also known as membership in a "protected class").
