Job description

Job Title: Senior Leaves & Accommodations Specialist

Location: Raleigh, NC 27609

Duration: 06+ Month Contract

Pay Rate: 45$-49$/hr. On W2

Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – Tuesday through Thursday in the Raleigh office
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM EST

Potential: Extension or conversion may be possible based on business needs


Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Specialist I, Leaves & Accommodations Specialist to join the Leave of Absence & Accommodations (LoAA) team.

This position serves as a subject matter expert for complex leave of absence, disability, workplace accommodation, and return-to-work matters. The specialist will provide guidance on sensitive employee cases, support the accommodation interactive process, ensure accurate and legally defensible documentation, and help maintain compliance with applicable policies and regulations.

The role will also provide guidance and coaching to other LoAA Specialists and support process improvements that enhance service quality, consistency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on leave, disability, accommodation, and related policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and advise on complex or escalated leave, disability, accommodation, and return-to-work cases.
  • Support the workplace accommodation interactive process, including documentation review, employee/manager consultation, solution exploration, and outcome communication.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive case documentation, including case notes, rationale, decision tracking, and interactive-process records.
  • Draft and manage sensitive employee and manager communications that may require legal review.
  • Provide guidance to LoAA Specialists regarding case routing, documentation standards, escalation criteria, and standard work.
  • Coach and mentor Specialists to improve case quality, employee experience, and compliance.
  • Partner with employees, managers, HR, Legal, Employee Relations, Benefits, Payroll, and other stakeholders to resolve complex cases.
  • Support compliance activities such as case reviews, documentation audits, and process adherence checks.
  • Identify process gaps and support implementation of practical process improvements.
  • Escalate high-risk, legally sensitive, ambiguous, or precedent-setting matters when appropriate.
  • Support development and maintenance of SOPs, templates, knowledge articles, training materials, and case guidance documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Progressive experience in Leave of Absence, Disability, Workplace Accommodations, Employee Relations, Benefits, HR Operations, or related HR service delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, state/local leave laws, workplace accommodations, and related compliance requirements.
  • Experience handling complex, sensitive, or escalated employee cases.
  • Experience supporting the accommodation interactive process.
  • Strong case documentation, consultation, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when handling confidential and ambiguous situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Technology Experience

Experience with HR and payroll systems such as:

  • Workday
  • ServiceNow
  • SAP
  • Oracle
  • PeopleSoft
  • ADP
  • Similar HR/Case Management platforms

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint is also required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workday and ServiceNow experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting complex leave, disability, accommodation, return-to-work, or employee relations matters.
  • Relevant certifications such as PHR, SPHR, Certified Leave Management Specialist, Certified Professional in Disability Management, or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist are preferred.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring other HR/Leave Specialists.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced Leave of Absence / Absence Management, Disability, Workplace Accommodation, Employee Relations, or HR Case Management professional with strong hands-on knowledge of FMLA and ADA requirements and experience managing complex employee cases.

The candidate must be comfortable working with sensitive information, documenting cases thoroughly, partnering with employees and managers, and working cross-functionally with HR, Legal, Employee Relations, Benefits, and Payroll teams.

Important: This is a hybrid Raleigh, NC position, with onsite work required Tuesday through Thursday.
