About Abbey Glass
Abbey Glass is a veteran-owned, family-operated glass company serving southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod. We specialize in custom shower enclosures, mirrors, residential and commercial glass, and related glass services.
We are looking for a dependable, hands-on person who wants to learn the glass trade and become a valuable part of our team. Previous glass experience is not required. We are willing to train someone who is reliable, mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and interested in building a long-term career in the trades.
Position Overview
The Glass Installer & Shop Technician will assist experienced technicians with shower door installations and perform a variety of glass shop duties. This is an active, hands-on position that includes working both in our shop and at customer locations.
The right candidate will start by assisting and learning, with opportunities to take on more responsibility as their skills develop. Candidates with previous auto glass experience may also have opportunities to assist with auto glass work.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation of frameless and framed shower enclosures
  • Load, unload, carry, and safely handle glass panels, mirrors, hardware, tools, and materials.
  • Help prepare job sites and protect customers’ homes and work areas.
  • Assist installers with measuring, leveling, drilling, fastening, sealing, and final cleanup.
  • Cut and process flat glass and mirrors under supervision.
  • Use glass-cutting tools, sanders, polishers, drills, and other shop equipment.
  • Assemble shower hardware, frames, screens, and related products.
  • Clean glass and inspect completed work for quality.
  • Organize materials and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient shop.
  • Load company vehicles and prepare materials for upcoming jobs.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and proper glass-handling practices.
  • Assist with auto glass work when qualified or as training becomes available.
  • Perform other shop, installation, and general labor duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • No previous glass experience is required.
  • Interest in learning a skilled trade and developing long-term technical abilities.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and learning power tools and shop equipment.
  • Good attention to detail and respect for customers’ property.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a two-person or larger installation team.
  • Able to safely lift and carry heavy or awkward materials, frequently weighing 50 pounds or more, with assistance or lifting equipment when appropriate.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and performing physical work throughout the day.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers and customers.
  • Willingness to work in the shop, outdoors, on construction sites, and inside occupied homes and businesses.
Helpful but Not Required
Experience in any of the following areas is helpful, but we will consider candidates without previous trade experience:
  • Glass installation or fabrication
  • Shower door installation
  • Auto glass repair or replacement
  • Carpentry, construction, remodeling, or finish work
  • Locksmithing or door hardware
  • Mechanical or maintenance work
  • Screen fabrication
  • Warehouse or shop work
  • Measuring and reading a tape measure accurately
  • Using drills, saws, grinders, sanders, or similar tools
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
  • Shows up on time and is ready to work.
  • Takes safety seriously.
  • Is willing to listen, learn, and ask questions.
  • Takes pride in doing clean, accurate work.
  • Can stay productive without constant supervision.
  • Treats customers, coworkers, tools, and property with respect.
  • Wants to develop valuable trade skills and grow with the company.
This is not a desk job. It is a physical, hands-on position for someone who enjoys building, installing, solving problems, and seeing the finished results of their work.
Schedule

This is a full-time position. The normal schedule is primarily during weekday business hours, although start and end times may vary based on installation schedules, travel, and customer needs.
How to Apply
Please submit your name, contact information, work history, and a brief explanation of why you are interested in learning the glass trade. Applicants with construction, mechanical, installation, shop, or auto glass experience should include those details.
Abbey Glass is an equal opportunity employer.
